Then I had a daughter…

I think, like most women reading this, have had a history of looking in the mirror and picking out the things they don’t like. I used to spend a lot of time focusing on the little bit of extra weight from the baby or on the unevenness of my smile. Then I had a daughter. Having her made me really think about how I want her to grow up looking at herself in the mirror.  It made me really look and question the norms we hold ourselves to as a society.

Not only do we compare ourselves to airbrushed and photo-shopped models but then we also hold up values such as being demure and self deprecating as good things. I decided that’s not me;  It’s not the value system I want my daughter to have and so  it’s not what I’m going to model anymore.

It’s time for us to appreciate how amazing the female body is: we breathe and grow,  we create life and feed babies, and we can make a man’s mouth water with our sensuality.   It’s time that each of us start appreciating that more.

I had been thinking about doing a Boudoir session for a few years but I always put it off.  I said I”ll go when I lost a little bit or when I got in better shape, always when….

But that’s not the point, ladies!  The point is to celebrate how amazing we are as women.

The little quirks that make us all different should be celebrated, not make a sad because it makes us different from some societal determined norm.  It’s an empowering and fun and sexy experience.  Kristen is amazing at what she does!  So if you are thinking “I’ll go when (fill in the blank” or “I’m too nervous”, do yourself a favor and do it now.   You’ll be glad you did!
